Platform rules
Version 2026-10-18, updated 2026-10-24
These rules apply on all maps of the platform; the map author cannot disable them. They are part of the Terms of use. By registering or publishing content, you confirm that you have read them together with the Terms of use and the Privacy policy.
1. The service is not a “radar”
- Do not mark or describe the location of TCC (military enlistment offices), the military or police. The platform’s automation flags such entries as suspicious or, if the platform administration has set it up that way, rejects them before publication; flagged entries are reviewed by the map team, and reports with the reason “TCC, military, police” are handled directly by the platform administration.
- Mapiko shows places and situations, not surveillance of people or services.
2. Place and situation, not a person
- Describe the place and what happened. No names, photos, car number plates, phone numbers or home addresses of the people involved in the event. Contacts of organisations (phone, website, email) may be given in a pin.
- Pins with personal data are rejected automatically or get a suspicious flag, depending on the type of data and the platform administration’s settings. The platform’s reference maps are filled with data from open sources (OpenStreetMap — ODbL, open data — CC BY), including contacts of organisations and sole proprietors as given in the source. To remove your data from a pin, report it with the reason “personal data”.
3. Serious incidents
- Pins of serious types (violence, abduction, murder) and pins in whose text automation detects signs of such events are published only after review by the map team, not instantly.
- If there is a threat to life, call 102 or 112. The service does not replace emergency services.
4. Your responsibility
- Each entry is the responsibility of its author. The operator and the map team do not check whether pins are true. Everyone can see the nickname of a comment’s author.
- Publish only what you saw yourself or are sure of. Do not publish anything knowingly false, insults, threats, calls for violence, spam, advertising or other illegal content.
- Do not get around restrictions: do not create multiple accounts or anonymous identities to inflate votes or to bypass limits or blocks.
5. Who reviews
- A map’s content is moderated by its map team — the owner and moderators: they approve, reject, hide and delete pins, comments and photos, review automation’s suspicious flags and handle reports on the content of their map. If pre-moderation is enabled on the map, flagged content waits for the team’s decision; without pre-moderation it is published immediately, and the team sees it with a flag and reviews it after publication. The team can block a person on its map for 1 day, 7 days or permanently and hide their entries on that map: the person will still be able to read the map, but not add pins, comments, votes or photos. The team can be stricter than the platform rules, but not more lenient.
- The platform administration steps in on signals: reports with the reasons “TCC, military, police” and “personal data” (they go directly to it), reports on the map itself or on a user, reports escalated by the map team, requests and appeals. It configures automation (what to flag as suspicious and what to reject immediately) and can warn a user, temporarily limit them to “read-only” mode for 1, 7 or 30 days, or block an account or a map. The platform’s decision is final.
- Authors do not moderate their own content, even if they are the owner or a moderator of the map: their pin, comment or photo is reviewed by another moderator of the map. If the map has only one moderator, their own content is published immediately and recorded in the moderation log. An editor adds pins without the map’s pre-moderation and does not moderate other people’s content.
6. Reports and blocking
- You can report a pin, comment or photo with the “Report” button, and a map with “Report map”. Reports on a map’s content are handled by its map team; “TCC, military, police” and “personal data” reports, reports on a map and reports escalated by the map team are handled by the platform administration, regardless of the map author’s settings.
- For violations, we may, without warning or giving reasons, hide or delete an entry, warn a user, limit them to “read-only” mode, or block a map or a user. Decisions are recorded in the moderation log.
- New entries by an author with many violations (entries removed by moderators and blocks on maps) get the “Repeat offender” flag for the map team.
7. Questions
A map team’s decision can be appealed to the team through “Message the map owner”. A decision of the platform administration — through “Contact support” (topic “Appeal a moderation decision or block”) or at [email protected].
